Cleft Palate News

As a lot of you will know, ozED has been commencing a campaign to seek Government support for a review of the cleft lip and palate program.

This is the program that is administered by the Department of Health (Commonwealth) and administered by Medicare Australia .

ozED and our members have been concerned that a number of anomalies exist in the program and as such we are seeking a review to ensure that people and families requiring medical and dental support because of their ED, receive the support, afforded to other medical conditions.

Dialog started with the Minister for Health, Hon, Tony Abbott MP (via his office) back in July.  It is now with great delight that I can announce that the Department of Health has requested that ozED formally supply information (terms of reference) for the review that we are seeking.

I would like to stress that this is only a small step forward, however, it still is a significant step forward for our families.

Over the coming weeks, ozED will be working with our professional partners and other relevant bodies to ensure that we put forward a very workable review document.

We have a long road ahead of us with this, however the benefit to families may be extremely significant and very worth the while of the organisation and our members.

I will keep you up to date as we move through the milestones of the campaign.

If people have other issues that they would like considered, please email me ASAP to let me know, and if you want further information regarding this please let me know..
